Aksana Kavaliova-Moussi was born in Belarus, to a family of musicians. Her mother is a retired piano teacher, her father was a director of the cultural centers, and her brother graduated as a music composer from the Belarusian State Academy of Music (Minsk).
At the very early age of three and a half Aksana started singing solo and performing with her parents in local and national televised events.
Aksana completed a Bachelor/teaching degree in music theory and history from the Vitebsk State College of Music, a Bachelor of Arts in cultural studies from the Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts, before moving to Canada where she began her studies in music therapy at the University of Windsor, Ontario in 2004.
During her academic years in Windsor, Aksana provided music therapy for children with special needs and expectant teen mothers. She was a member of the "Music Therapy and a Symphony" research project, working with the oncology patients (see here). As a music therapist intern, she worked with the paediatric patients at the Windsor Regional Hospital, patients at the Hospice of Windsor-Essex County and the "In-House Hospice Solutions" in Southfield, Michigan.
Aksana graduated in 2008 with the Honours Bachelor of Music Therapy with a minor in Psychology (with Distinction), and became Music Therapist Accredited (MTA) in February 2009. In May 2014 she graduated with a Master of Music in Music Therapy degree from the Colorado State University (Fort Collins, CO).
Aksana was a member of the Organizing Committee of the International Conference on Music Therapy and Supportive Cancer Care, in Windsor, Ontario (2010). She served on a scientific committee for the Canadian Association of Music Therapy conference (Toronto 2014). Aksana is a member of the editorial board of the "Music and Medicine"-the academic journal of the International Association for Music & Medicine (IAMM). She is a founding member of the Online Conference for Music Therapy (OCMT) since 2010, and is a Co-Chair of the OCMT since 2014 (www.onlineconferenceformusictherapy.com).
Aksana served as the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Liaison for the World Federation of Music Therapy since July 2011. She became a member of the Education and Training commission in August 2017.
From 2008 to June 2018, Aksana run her music therapy private practice in the Kingdom of Bahrain, where she worked with several private schools and centers and numerous individuals with Autism, Down syndrome, intellectual and developmental disabilities, ADHD, anxiety disorders (including selective mutism) and other conditions.
In July 2018, Aksana and her family relocated to beautiful Niagara-on-the-Lake in Ontario (Canada), where she began her private practice while finishing her Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology degree. Aksana's counseling placement is at the renowned Attachment and Trauma Treatment Centre for Healing (ATTCH) in St. Catharines.
